Minneapolis Electronic Music Radio Archive, 2006-2009
Nascent Numen was an electronic music collective based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 2006, the group brought together DJs, producers, and promoters who shared a passion for house, techno, trance, drum & bass, and electro. They threw events, produced music, and hosted a weekly internet radio show called Axis Radio that ran from February 2006 through July 2009.
The collective operated out of a shared love for underground electronic music at a time when the Minneapolis scene was thriving with weekly events, warehouse parties, and a tight-knit community of artists and fans.
Axis Radio aired every Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:30 PM CST on AfterhoursDJs.org, recorded at Vital Vinyl in Minneapolis. Each week featured a different guest DJ performing a live mix, showcasing the breadth and depth of the Minneapolis electronic music scene alongside guests from across the Midwest and beyond.
Over its three-year run, Axis hosted more than 150 episodes featuring over 100 different DJs. The show served as a platform for established artists and newcomers alike, capturing a snapshot of a vibrant musical community during the mid-to-late 2000s.

Axis Radio was part of a broader Minneapolis electronic music ecosystem in the mid-2000s. MNVibe was the online hub where the community gathered, a forum and event calendar that connected DJs, promoters, and fans across the Twin Cities. AfterhoursDJs.org provided the streaming infrastructure that made internet radio shows like Axis possible. Vital Vinyl in Minneapolis was where the show was recorded.
Venues, house parties, and warehouse events provided the physical gathering spaces, while internet radio bridged the gaps between events and reached listeners who couldn't make it out on a given night. It was a time of transition. Online communities were becoming essential infrastructure for underground music scenes.
The original Nascent Numen website is long gone. These 164 recordings survived on a personal hard drive, the only known copies of most episodes. This archive exists to preserve them and make them accessible again.
Every episode is available for streaming and download. The waveform visualizations are generated from the original MP3 files. No audio has been remastered or modified.
